DATE:
Sunday, May 6, 2001 - Race begins at 8:00 a.m.
LOCATION:
The race will start and finish at the Pentagon North Parking Lot.
PRESS PACKETS ARE AVAILABLE AT
THE INFORMATION BOOTH IN THE STAGING AREA.
WHY:
The Defenders Run will celebrate the defenders of our country and raise
awareness for USO-Metro and the military population it serves.
It will also raise funds to maintain and expand USO-Metro programs and
services.
WHO:
USO-Metro provides social services to military personnel and their
families in the Washington-Baltimore region.
This year more than 500,000 people will benefit from services such as the
Emergency Housing Program, Airport Centers, Family Outreach Centers, and job
fairs. USO-Metro is a private
nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and receives no federal, state, or local
funding.
HIGHLIGHTS:

2,500 runners anticipated, including international
elite runners, teams from the military, international community, area
corporations, and running clubs
·
$10,000 cash purse and awards to top military teams
and individuals
·
ChampionChip scoring technology
·
Entertainment provided by the 257th Army
Band, Jim London of 98.7 WMZQ and the Wizards Dance Team
·
Pre-race expo on Saturday, May 5
