The
USO of Metropolitan Washington proudly announces the 4th Annual Microsoft-USO
Defenders 10 Mile Run on Sunday, May 6, 2001.
The race will begin at the Pentagon at 8:00 a.m. and features cash
awards totaling $10,000 to the top male and female finishers, use of the
ChampionChip timing system, a certified, fast course, a
pre-race expo at the Sheraton National Hotel and entertainment by the 257th
Army Band, 98.7 WMZQ and the Wizards Dance Team.
First place male and female
finishers will each receive $2,400 and special awards will be given to the first
place male and female from each branch of service.
Individuals and teams are encouraged to participate.

top athletes include: Allison Holinka (based out of Southern VA, in top 25 at
Cherry Blossom), Anna Pichrtova (training in Southern VA), Peter Sherry (one of
the top local runners), Chris Graff (one of the top distance runners in the
country), 18-year old Kenyan Martha Komu (training in Westchester, PA) and
22-year old Kenyan David Njuguna (trains in Westchester, PA).
All
proceeds from the race go directly back into USO-Metro programs and services for
military personnel and their families. USO-Metro
serves more than 500,000 people annually in the Washington metropolitan area and
at their BWI Airport facility. USO-Metro is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that
receives no federal, state or local funding.
