2001 Twin Cities Marathon Announces May 1 Registration
Kick-Off Party
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- April 23 - The Registration Kick-off party is the first
chance for the public to register for this year's 20th running of the Twin
Cities Marathon (TCM) to be held on October 7, 2001. The Registration
Kick-off party will be held on May 1 at the Calhoun Beach Club, 2925 Dean
Parkway, Minneapolis from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Marathon officials anticipate that the 8,500 spots will be filled within
weeks. Runners are encouraged to enter early by attending the Registration
Kick-off party. On-line and paper registrations begin May 2.
The event is anticipated to draw over 1,000 attendees. The event also
provides an opportunity to meet the TCM Executive Director, Dan Finanger and
the President, Mary Anderson, along with other marathon Board members, staff
and volunteers. The inaugural Twin Cities Marathon scholarship program
recipients, one male and one female, will be awarded their $1,000
scholarship through the Twin Cities Marathon Community Contributions Committee.
In
addition, the TCM 19-Year Veterans will be recognized.
Training T-shirts and other Twin Cities Marathon merchandise will be
available to purchase, and refreshments will be provided. The event is
sponsored by Gear, one of the Twin Cities top running stores. Gear can
assist runners with most of their running needs. The TCM's major sponsors, Cub
and
Calhoun Beach Club, along with the marathon's major media sponsors, KARE 11
and Cities 97, will be represented.
Twin Cities Marathon continues its 10th consecutive year as the designated
USATF National Masters Championship for men and women. In addition to the
marathon, the Twin Cities Marathon, a Running USA Founding Member, features
a three-day weekend celebration of fitness, including a Saturday 5K Fun
Run/Walk and children's fun runs, a pasta dinner, a two-day Health and
Fitness Expo and a 10 mile race on Sunday. Major sponsors for the 2001
marathon are Cub and the Calhoun Beach Club. The major media sponsors are
KARE 11 and Cities 97. The designated community contributions are Bolder
Options, Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater Minneapolis and St. Paul and a
