Race Benefits Children's Hospital
WASHINGTON
- W. C. & A. N. Miller Companies recently announced the roster of
distinguished sponsors for the company’s 11th
Annual Spring Valley/Sumner 5K Race, to be held Saturday, September 8 starting
at the Shops at Sumner Place.
This year’s sponsors include Safeway, Ritz Camera, Quest Systems, Cassidy
& Pinkard Inc., Crown Stairs, Holland & Knight L.L.P., and Capon
Cleaning Contractors, Inc. Other
companies sponsoring the event are: Fresh Fields Supermarket; Ridgewell’s
Caterers; Klien Engineering; Kirschner & Gartrell; City Title & Escrow;
American Exteriors; Greenstein, Delorme & Luchs; DeCarlos’s Restaurant;
the Ski Center; Fine Earth Landscaping; Early, Cassidy & Schilling; United
Bank; Alan Gordon, CPA, ISM Inc.; Wells & Associates; Sibley Memorial
Hospital; Allen Mitchell; and Paragon Title.
Several of the race's sponsors -- including Safeway and Ritz Camera --
are tenants of The Shops at Sumner Place, which is located at 4701 Sangamore
Road in Montgomery County, Md. Recently
redeveloped by the Miller Companies, The Shops at Sumner Place will be
celebrating its Grand Opening as part of the day’s festivities.
The
Miller Companies is the founder and has been the primary sponsor of the
competition since its inception in 1990. Last
year the race raised more than $100,000, a portion of which was dedicated to a
special project at the hospital, Laura's Room. The Miller Companies has long
been a major benefactor for Children's Hospital, both in terms of financial and
volunteer support.
Children's
Hospital is a private, nonprofit institution that has been treating children for
nearly 130 years. In addition to its caregiving activity, Children's Hospital
functions as an advocate, researcher, and educator for young patients. Its
facilities include the Spring Valley Children's Center, a resource for families
and pediatricians that brings the Hospital into that community.
