THE SALLIE MAE 10K AND DC-CAP REV IT UP FOR 2001
By George Banker

Washington, DC., April 26, 2001 -  The runners are making their way to the start line in West Potomac Park in Washington, a place of many upsets. On Sunday, April 29, 2001 at 8:00 a.m., some of the areas best runners will go head-to-head to chase after $18,000 in prize money.  Competition is expected from the 3,000 registered runners from the front of the pack to the back of the pack. Some runners will be after the prize while many others will be looking for a personal record. The feeling of knowing that you ran your best will last longer than the prize money.

In the last eleven years there has not been a repeat winner.  The women’s record of 32:00 set by Jill Hunter of England in 1989 has stood the test of time. If it can be beaten there is a $1,000 bonus. Will it go unclaimed? The USATF certified course is flat and fast.

The last day to register and packet pick-up will be Saturday, April 28, 2001, 10:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M., at the MCI - Discovery  Channel Destination Store (NOTE- LOCATION CHANGE) at 601 F Street, NW, in Washington. To avoid parking problems, take the Metro to Gallery Place.

The race entry fee is $25 . The fee  is $12 for under the age of 18 and college students (copy of student ID required). The fee for the Fun Run is $10. There will be NO race day entries accepted.

The All-star line up includes the following runners:
