SALLIE MAE 10K AND THE DC-COLLEGE ACCESS PROGRAM

Washington, D.C., April 6, 2001 - You are not late, applications are being
accepted for the 18th Sallie Mae 10K, Sunday, April 29, 2001 at 8:00 A.M.,
in West Potomac Park. It's the most competitive 10K in the area. Since
1989 the race has attracted an international field of athletes and 2001 will
not be an exception. The flat and fast USATF certified course begs for
each
runner to test their limits. What have you being training for? What do you
expect from a 10K? Come out and join your family and friends at the Sallie
Mae 10K and you'll find the answer to the question.
A Family Fun Run 2K (1.2 miles) will start after the 10K along Ohio Drive
in West Potomac Park, out and back.
The last day to register and packet pick-up will be Saturday, April 28,
2001, 10:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M., at the MCI - Discovery Channel Destination
Store (NOTE- LOCATION CHANGE) at 601 F Street, NW, in Washington. To avoid
parking problems, take the Metro to Gallery Place.
The race entry fee is $20 through April 10, 2001 and $25 thereafter. The
fee is $12 for under the age of 18 and college students (copy of student
ID required). The fee for the Fun Run is $10. There will be NO race day
entries accepted.
Team competition will be held in the following categories, all-male,
all-female and mixed. Each team must consist of a minimum of four members,
no additional fee. The top four times will be combined to determine the
total team time. Mixed teams will be calculated by combining the top two
male and female times.
The post-race breakfast will be hosted by Safeway, Crystal Geyser, and
D.C. Central Kitchen. The breakfast will include fresh bagels, fruit,
juices,
healthy snacks and other delicious treats.
A pre-race aerobics will be held 7:20 A.M. - 7:35 A.M., led by Tony Scott
of Gold's Gym.

The race benefits the District of Columbia Access Program (DC-CAP), a
non-profit organization funded by Washington area companies and
foundations dedicated to encouraging and enabling District public high
school
graduates to enter and graduate from college. In its first year
partnership with
DC-CAP, the race raised in excess of $100,000.
The Sallie Mae 10K is held in association with WJLA- Channel 7 and The
Washington Post. Sallie Mae is the nation's leading provider of education
financing. The additional sponsors include Balance Bars, Coca-Cola,
Crystal Geyser, DC-101FM, ExxonMobil, Lake Lithograph and Safeway. The
event is
managed by SFX, the world's largest diversified promoter, producer and
venue operator of live entertainment events.
