Twilight Rive Run 5K Is Cancelled

This notice is to inform all interested runners that the TWILIGHT
RIVER RUN 5K is canceled for this year (2001).  The TRR 5K had been held on
the first Friday night of August in the Avalon section of Patapsco State
Park.  Proceeds from the race were donated to both the Howard & Anne
Arundel County divisions of MD Special Olympics (last year $2400 had
been split between the two counties).

This race is being canceled due to the fact that the park can no
longer waive the entrance fee for runners, volunteers, and Special Olympians.
It was felt that the entrance fee charge per person plus the cost of the
pavilion rental would have reduced the donation amount for Special
Olympics by over 40 %.  Please note that the Patpsco State Park rangers
did everything possible to attempt getting the fee waived; however, this
decision to no longer waive the fee was made at the state level.

Both my husband and myself have been involved with this race since its
inception in 1990, and we will attempt to pursue all avenues to
re-instate this race in the future.  We would also like to thank all
area running clubs ( Corporate West Running Club, Howard County
Striders, Baltimore Road Runners, and Annapolis Striders) whose various
members have all assisted in making the TRR 5K a successful event.
