 Arlington-Fairfax Jewish Congregation conducts biggest-ever 5k run/2.5k walk/wheelchair roll

On Sunday, June 3, 2001, at 10 am, Arlington-Fairfax Jewish Congregation,
the only center for Jewish education in Arlington, Virginia, hosts its
fourth annual Mitzvah 5K Run/2.5K Walk and Wheelchair Roll to benefit
scholarship programs to enable any student, regardless of income, to attend
Hebrew school, summer camps, youth conventions, or other Jewish events, as
well as college.

This year's race is the year's 2nd largest 5K in Arlington, Virginia.  Our
featured athletes include:

 o U.S. Olympian John Tuttle of Douglasville, Georgia (near Atlanta)
 o Current U.S. 70+ 5K record-holder John Cahill of Salt Lake City, Utah
 o Cherry Blossom 10-mile 45-49 champion Betty Blank
 o A talented field of more than 400 local runners and walkers

The 5K (3.1-mile) run is two loops through shady Arlington Heights and
Penrose neighborhoods.  The walk and wheelchair roll are both one loop.  The
sumptuous post-race picnic is sponsored by The Uncommon Market, Drink More
Water, Fresh Fields, Einstein Bros Bagels, and Honest Tea.

Registration for the Mitzvah Race is $15 before May 25, $18 thereafter,
and $20 on race day, free for children 12 & under.  Every paid entrant gets
the t-shirt, post-race picnic, and goodie bag with coupons and freeebies.
If you register for both the Mitzvah Race AND Hebrew Home of Greater
Washington's SODEXHO Oy Vay 5K or 10K, Sunday, June 10, you get a $1
discount on BOTH.

"This won't be another sleepy, dusty delta day," said Jay Jacob Wind, race
director of the June 3rd event.  "This will be our biggest race ever.  We
have a major sponsor, AMERICAN SERVICE CENTER at 585 North Glebe Road in
Arlington, a fast course and a beautiful t-shirt by a world-famous
award-winning artist.  Our race is unique among all races in the DC area
because we award prizes to EVERY FINISHER from the fastest track star to the
slowest child or grandmother.  This year, for the first time, we are uniting
our efforts with two other Jewish organizations:  Jewish Community Center of
Northern Virginia, whose Jewish Festival 2001 is 12-5 pm the afternoon of
our race at Reston Towne Centre; and Hebrew Home of Greater Washington,
whose SODEXHO Oy Vay 5K/10K is June 10."
