WHERE:         Washington, D.C. (downtown)            Walk Route Start: MLK, Jr. Library, 9th & G Strs, NW 

WHY:              The Walk for Literacy 2001 will heighten awareness of low literacy and its impact on the community while raising funds to support area adult education service providers. D.C. has the highest percentage (37%) in the U.S. of adults in need of significant literacy skills enhancement.  Further, it is estimated that over 130,000 residents are in immediate need of literacy skills, and the numbers increase as data collection is enhanced.                         

COST:            General Registration - $20 per general entry; $30 per entry after Sept. 15th
Student, Enrolled Adult Learners and Senior Citizen Registration - $10 per entry

SEA, Adult Education promotes adult education to enhance literacy skills.   SEA administers public and private funds for critical programs in the District of Columbia that provide adult literacy services to area residents.
