                  Creighton wins 22nd running; Butler sets women's event record

CHICAGO (April 1, 2001) - The LaSalle Bank Shamrock Shuffle 8K, now the
largest 8K (4.97 mile) race in the world, brought a record 16,582
participants to Grant Park on a clear, cool spring morning to help kick off
the start of Chicago's outdoor running season. Australian Shaun Creighton
(34, Albequerque, NM) won with a blistering time of 22:51. Canadian Kathy
Butler (27, Madison, WI) set a new women's event record of 25:25 with her
first Shamrock victory in two appearances.

Creighton and Butler will each take home $1,500 for their victories out of
the event record $10,000 purse. Butler will earn an additional $1,000 for
her event record.

Former Shamrock champions also performed well, as last year's winner Mark
Coogan (34, Madison, WI) placed seventh (23:19), 1999 winner Todd Williams
(32, Knoxville, TN) placed fifth (23:14) and 1997 champion John Kariuki
(32, Homewood, IL) finished in third place (23:02). Two-time defending
women's champion Collette Liss (27, Valparaiso, IN) finished second (26:21)
while 1998 winner Marian Sutton (37, Cornwall, ENG) finished third (27:33).

Farther back in the pack, Warren Utes, at the age of 80, set a national age
group record by completing the 8K in 37:08, beating the previous record by
an amazing three minutes.

The growth of the LaSalle Bank Shamrock Shuffle 8K has truly been
phenomenal. Since 1997, the number of registered participants has risen
from 8,467 to 16,582 - a 96% increase during the four-year period.
