“KIDS
ON THE RUN”
“IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO
REGISTER!”
By Nancy Betress
The
Montgomery County Road Runners Club (MCRRC) believes that running is fun for all
ages but especially for kids and teenagers.
“Kids on the Run”, a special event for kids 18 and under, will be
held on Saturday, May 19, 2001, at the National Institutes of Standards and
Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD. This
event is designed solely for kids to promote fitness through running in a
non-competitive atmosphere while having fun and raising funds for the NIST Child
Care Center. It is produced by
MCRRC.
Events
consist of the 100-meter Toddler Trot, One-half Kilometer, One Kilometer and Two
Kilometer Runs. All finishers will
receive a participation award and be treated to refreshments and entertainment
after their run.
Back
by popular demand is the Kids Marathon. To
enter the marathon, each child must run one mile each day of any 25 days between
now and May 19. Each time a child
runs a mile, their parents must log the date and initial the application.
Mail-in registration has closed, so be sure to bring it with you to
packet pick up. The final 2k
(1.2 miles) will be completed on May 19 at this event. Kids Marathon pins and certificates will be given out at the
awards ceremony after the run.
Late
registration and packet pick-up will be held at the Rockshire
Giant on Wootton Parkway, Rockville, MD, on Friday, May 18, 4-6 p.m. and
Saturday, May 19, 7:30 – 8:40 a.m. at the race site. For further information
or to volunteer to help at the event, please call (301) 251-1640.
This
event is part of the MCCRC 2001 Youth Running Programs.
