NEW WASHINGTON DC MARATHON GETS PERMITTING
Internet Registration Begins on Tuesday, June 26

ARLINGTON, VA -- Washington, DC Emergency Management Services and the National Park Service have approved permitting of a new marathon to be held on March 24, 2002, and final logistics are in the process of being worked out.

An initial route was certified by the USA Track & Field but has undergone slight modifications at the request of the National Park Service.  The revised route is undergoing the certification process.  The proposed route takes runners throughout all quadrants of the city and starts at Memorial Bridge and ends at Freedom Plaza and is currently undergoing certification by USA Track & Field.  Once certified, this course would also give Washington a certified course to include in their bid for the Olympics.

The Washington, DC Marathon web site (www.washingtondcmarathon.com) will be open for online registration on Tuesday, June 26 beginning at 9 A.M. EDT.

The marathon has been scheduled to fall in between the Boston and Los Angeles marathons.  It is also scheduled 7 months before the Marine Corps Marathon so as not to conflict with that race.

For additional information on the Washington DC Marathon visit the web site at www.washingtondcmarathon.com or call 703-528-8176. An H2O Entertainment Group Event.
